The life we made

The first set of keys — We had two mugs, three boxes of books, and nowhere to sit. We ate dinner on the floor and argued cheerfully about where the sofa would go.

The plan that changed — That year did not look like we expected. I remember the long walk when we finally admitted it, and how much lighter it felt to make the next decision together.

The kitchen dance — The food was getting cold because our song came on. You said we had time for one dance. We always seem to find time for one dance.

A table for two — We talked about the people we used to be, then made a list of places we still want to go. You wrote the first one on the back of the receipt.
